Arrest Made in Tragic Death of 14-Year-Old Celeste Rivas Hernandez
Los Angeles police have arrested 21-year-old singer David Burke, known to fans as D4vd, in connection with the killing of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was discovered in September 2025 inside the trunk compartment of an abandoned Tesla in the Hollywood Hills.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Burke was taken into custody Thursday and is currently being held without bail. Authorities say the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.
The devastating case has shaken communities from Lake Elsinore to Los Angeles. Celeste, who was reported missing in 2024 at just 13 years old, would have turned 15 the day before her body was found on September 8. Court documents state she was 14 at the time of her death.
Investigators previously confirmed that in February a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation identified Burke as the target of a probe into the teen’s killing. Subpoenas issued in mid-January sought testimony from three of his relatives. Those documents, initially sealed, became public following a legal challenge by family members in Texas.
Chilling Discovery in Abandoned Vehicle
Authorities say Celeste’s body was discovered inside a 2023 Tesla Model Y registered to Burke. The vehicle had been towed from the Hollywood Hills and was being inspected at a tow yard when investigators made the grim discovery.
According to court filings, detectives located a cadaver bag in the vehicle’s front storage compartment. When partially unzipped, officers observed what appeared to be a decomposed head and torso. Documents describe the presence of insects and a strong odor consistent with advanced decomposition.
Investigators later reported that Celeste’s arms and legs had been severed. A second bag allegedly contained additional remains. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to conduct further examination.
The brutality described in official documents has intensified public anguish, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and justice for Celeste and her loved ones.

Until this week’s arrest, law enforcement had not publicly named Burke as a suspect, though news of the grand jury investigation earlier this year prompted widespread scrutiny. Burke, a Houston-born alt-pop artist who rose to prominence through TikTok and streaming platforms, was on tour when Celeste’s body was found and continued performing before canceling remaining U.S. and European dates as media reports connected him to the investigation.
Burke gained national attention in 2022 with his breakout single “Romantic Homicide,” which climbed the Billboard alternative charts and helped him secure a major-label record deal. His rapid ascent in the music industry earned him a devoted Gen Z following.
Now, the focus has shifted from celebrity culture to justice for a young girl whose life was cut tragically short. Advocates for victims’ rights say Celeste’s case highlights larger systemic failures that too often leave vulnerable teenagers at risk.
